To all:

Just to let you know that we are working on a premium routing software for our Bluetooth GPS product. Registered users of our current Bluetooth GPS hardware, will be able to obtain the Socket software at a special discount. For those that are still wondering about purchasing the Socket GPS product, there will be a Bluetooth GPS Nav Kit (hardware and software) for purchase as well.

We will also be listing an AC Adapter and External Antenna for purchase from our web site; the AC Adapter will work with your various Pocket PC devices including the new Dell Axim X5.

Regards,

John

John,

OK- Now that you have us all excited is there any chance you could give us a little more information. I am currently using Teletype software and I can't say I am very impressed. I want to purchase a better package but I don't want to do anything until I have confirmed what you will be offering. Hopefully you can shed some light on your plans.

1. I have read the software will use NavTech maps - is this true? Can you give us any details about the software (maybe some screenshots)?
2. What kind of a discount will be offered to registered owners for the software?
3. When will the software be available for existing owners?
4. When can orders be placed (pre-orders?)?
5. When will the external antenna be available (I want to hardwire the system into my glove box while still picking up the maximum number of satellites)? Also the cost if available.

I can't begin to tell you how pleased I am with the hardware. I have tested the unit in planes and on the groung and it is an amazing piece of hardware. If the software is half as good as the hardware I will be one happy camper.

Thanks

tjsutherla,

I am very happy to hear that you are happy with the GPS performance. I think that you will like the features of Socket's MyNavigator routing application. I am glad to to answer what I can for right now.

Q1. I have read the software will use NavTech maps - is this true? Can you give us any details about the software (maybe some screenshots)?
A1. We are using map data powered by NavTech. As soon as I have the time, I will get some sample screen shots up on the product page on the "official" Socket web site.

Q2. What kind of a discount will be offered to registered owners for the software?
A2. I am working on the details now. The only folks that will be able to take advantage of the offer will be those who have already registered their Socket Bluetooth GPS Receiver.

Q3. When will the software be available for existing owners?
A3. Hopefully around the same time as the full kit begins shipping.

Q4. When can orders be placed (pre-orders?)?
A4. We are not doing any pre-order today, but I will see what I can do.

Q5. When will the external antenna be available (I want to hardwire the system into my glove box while still picking up the maximum number of satellites)? Also the cost if available.
A5. I am working out the details on the external antenna and a travel AC adapter which will include adapters for Europen travel. The AC adapter can also be used to charge several of the Pocket PCs that have a "barrel-type" connector (Casio E200, Dell Axim, Fujitsu LOOX, HP iPAQ with adapter, Toshiba e740 & e550).

I will try to keep you all informed as best I can.

Regards,

John

I've had the GPS unit for a couple days now and it works great with Pocket Streets. I keep the unit above the driver's seat sun shade and the status lights are easily visible, even cool looking at night!

Since Pocket Streets does not support voice prompts I wanted to ask if the MyNav software will support voice directions? also, will there be a desktop counterpart included ala Microsoft Streets n trips?

Thanks a lot.

It's 2-12-2003, Do You Know Where Your Nav Software Is??

I've been using Mapopolis, Destinator, and PMN. Each has it's good points, but I want more!
The Socket BT receiver has been so simply perfect, I'm almost afraid to say it out loud. Fixes take seconds, far cry from my old Navman Sleeve.

For grins, I was researching and found this. Here's a link to the OEM software, it looks like great stuff. OEM sales only, looks very nice on paper.

I'm chewing at the bit for this!!!

Please say it will be soon!!

To all:

While I am sure that everyone has gone to the "official" web site....

http://www.socketcom.com/product/gps.asp

....and follow the link to the Bluetooth GPS Nav Kit, you will note that there is a minor problem with the buy link. We know about it and we are working to resolve it. I am sorry for the trouble.

Regards,

John

To John,

When will the Nav software "special" be available to those of us with receivers now? I see the Nav Package is backordered as well as new receivers.

rem,

Due to popular demand, I have extended the period for owners of Socket Bluetooth GPS Receivers to register their product.

http://www.socketcom.com/product/GP0804-405.asp

Once the period closes, every registered user will receive an email outlining how they can take advantge of this offer.
